Renowned cardiologist Founder of "Total Health Care" Acclaimed author
Biography
Dr. Nieca Goldberg is a
cardiologist and a nationally recognized pioneer in women’s heart
health. Her New York City practice Total Heart Care focuses primarily
on caring for women. Dr. Goldberg is Clinical Associate Professor of
Medicine and Medical Director of NYU Women’s Heart Program, the
Co-Medical Director of the 92nd Street Y’s Cardiac Rehabilitation
Center, a national spokesperson for the American Heart Association’s
“Go Red” campaign, an AHA volunteer for over 15 years and served as a
board member in NYC. Previously she was the Chief of Women’s Cardiac
Care at Lenox Hill Hospital.
Dr. Goldberg is the author of the award
winning and highly acclaimed book WOMEN ARE NOT SMALL MEN which is now
updated and entitled THE WOMEN’S HEALTHY HEART PROGRAM – Lifesaving
Strategies for Preventing and Healing Heart Disease published by
Ballantine Books. Dr. Goldberg’s new book “Dr. Nieca Goldberg’s
Complete Guide to Women’s Health” will be published by Ballantine
Books, due for release on January 29, 2008.
A graduate of Barnard
College and SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, she completed her
medical residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and a
cardiology fellowship at SUNY Downstate.
Dr. Goldberg’s research
and medical publications are concerned with cardiovascular disease in
women, exercise imaging and exercise. She is often asked by the media
for her expert interpretation on current studies and medical news and
has appeared many times on The Today Show as well as The View, Good Morning America, The Early Show, and CBS Evening News. In addition she has been featured and interviewed by reporters from The
Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New York Post, The New
York Daily News, Fitness Magazine, More, Glamour, Good Housekeeping and many others discussing women and heart disease. She serves on the Woman’s Day Editorial Advisory Board.
In New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors” issue of 1999, Dr. Goldberg was the only woman in their top ten “Hall of Fame of Physicians”, she returned to New York Magazine’s
“Best Doctors” list in 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. The
recipient of numerous awards for her advocacy for women’s heart health
she received the American Heart Association’s “Dr. With Heart” award,
Woman’s Day magazine’s “Red Dress” award, Jewish Women International’s
“Women to Watch” award and The Women at Heart 2006 Honoree Award from
the Links Greater New York Chapter. Dr. Goldberg was part of an effort
by General Mills to educate the public about the lifestyle changes
necessary to help prevent heart disease, her book cover, WOMEN ARE NOT
SMALL MEN, appeared on over 3 million boxes of cereal.
