Reverend Susan Grace

Reverend and clean stand-up comedian who speaks on The Power of Humor for Healing

Biography

Susan has had a rather predictable career track. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Susan received a BA from the University of North Carolina where she was President of her class. She then earned a Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University and began a career as a trial lawyer.

After ten years, Susan left the practice and spent two years traveling around the world, including volunteering with Mother Teresa’s mission in Calcutta, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and training as a wilderness guide and fly-fisherwoman in Alaska and the desert southwest.

Upon returning home, Susan spent three years completing seminary at Union Theological in New York City while moonlighting as a standup comedian. Unfortunately, even with honors in seminary, Susan’s limited hair height destroyed her hopes of becoming a TV evangelist.

Consequently, she found her way to Madison Avenue Baptist Church (www.mabcnyc.org), a non-televised (but totally hip) congregation in midtown Manhattan, where she was called as the first woman Senior Pastor in its 150 plus year history. She is also a cancer survivor.

Specializing in the healing power of humor, Susan is a well known motivational speaker whose work has been noted in such publications as USA Today and the LA Times, featured on such networks as CNN and the Discovery Channel and in comedy clubs throughout New York City.

Susan also appears on Hallmark Channel’s “Naomi’s New Morning,” a talkshow hosted by country music star Naomi Judd. Coats Guiles, a Producer and Director, best described Susan as an “explosive combination of Matlock, Billy Graham and Ellen DeGeneres all rolled into one.”
